From the very beginning we all know that insect world is one of the most diversified world. There was more or less 91,000 described insect species found. Among them Mantodea order is one of the special and it’s members are known asPraying Mantis. They are distributed worldwide and generally in tropical and temperate regions. Tiny little triangular shaped head with the bulging eyes and elongated neck makes it alien like structure. Highly camouflaging nature and silently killing makes it one of the finest predator around the world. From the ancient history of china “NINJA” term was used for those persons who are highly modified assassins. They can killed any person within a fraction of moment but silently. The hunting pattern of a Praying Mantis is the same as ninjas. That’s why we can call them silent ninjas. From the movie “KUNG FU PANDA” we see a green colored mantis also known as ‘MANTIS’ is one of the lethal martial art character. But in real life they are one of the deadliest predator.

As it is belongs to the group insecta under the phylum Arthropoda, that’s why exoskeleton , segmented body and compound eyes is one of the main character of this animal. In case of Mantis, it has 5 eyes in which 3 eyes are simple for detecting lights and the big two eyes are compound in nature by which they can understand the movement and have the sense of depth. They can rotate their heads in 180 degreein any direction. On the other hand Praying Mantis uses it’s another weapon during hunting and that is their front legs. They usually fold them under their heads and this position resembles a human’s praying posture. But actually this is their hunting position. When they found their prey in proper position, within the fraction of second they capture it by using their front legs. In these legs there are lots of small spikes and longs spikes present by which they can grab their catch very easily.

Most of the Mantis individuals are very choosy for their habitat. Once a scientist says ‘coloration is the key of adaptation’. They choose their habitat basically those areas where they can camouflage themselves. This type of adaptation helps them to protect them from the threats as well as due to their hunter like nature this habitat gives them extra advantages to make a perfect trap. Flower Mantis are one of the best example of this type of adaptation. As well as Bark Mantis are lives in the bark of different trees.

Mantis species are not easily intimidated and go for big kills. First they detect it and then go for it. Basically they choose such places in where they can hide themselves and make an beautiful trap to catch it’s prey. Usually they choose dragonflies, spiders, small insects but sometime the prey out to be much bigger than itself. In some cases they are going with the small lizards, hummingbirds, giant spiders and even small rat or shrew type mammals. And this kind of attitude makes them one of the best hunters in the world.

After all this beautiful insect are not a part of endangered species, but the massive destruction of habitat may the cause of permanent destruction of this creature. WhereasMantis can help you by the hunting of flies, mosquitos, cockroaches and crop infected moths and other insects. It is one of the natural pest controller who can serve it’s duty with duly respect by killing those pests. So before we are going to destroy or burning down their habitat we must think that this is a huge loss of naturaldiversity and this type of human friendly insects.
